-->
For all those Mac users who have been eagerly waiting to install and experience the next generation Windows 8 operating system on Mac machine, here is the simple procedure that you need to follow to install Windows 8 on your Mac using the Boot Camp Assistant software.
Mac Lion And Windows 8
What you will need:
# Windows 8 DVD, ISO, or USB
# A USB drive with 8GB or more capacity
# One hour free time

We are going to use the Boot Camp Assistant software available on Mac. Boot Camp helps you install Windows OS on Intel-based Mac by downloading the necessary support software, creating a partition on your disk for Windows, and then starting the Windows installer.

NOTE: We assume that you have an Intel-based Mac machine with Boot Camp Assistant version 4.0 or later. It’s always a good idea to backup the important data on your computer before installing Windows on Mac. We used Mac mini (mid 2011) to install Windows 8 on the Mac. The procedure to install Windows 8 on other Mac machines might be a bit different.

Procedure:
Step 1: Launch Boot Camp Assistant software. To launch it, go to Utilities and click on Boot Camp Assistant to open it.
Install Windows 8 On Mac Step 1
Step 2: Once launched, click Continue button on the introduction screen to see the list of options available for your Mac. You will see three options:
# Create a Windows 7 install disk
# Download the latest Windows support software from Apple
# Install Windows 7
Install Windows 8 On Mac Step2
If Create a Windows 7 install disk option is not available on your Mac, it’s because your computer doesn’t support installing Windows from USB flash drive. Simply select the other options available and click Continue button.

By default, all three options are enabled. If you are on Mac Mini or MacBook Air, use the first option (Create a Windows 7 install disk) to create a bootable Windows 8 USB flash drive to install Windows 8 directly from USB flash drive. Click Continue button to proceed to the next step.

Step 3: (Please skip this step if you haven’t selected Create a Windows 7 install disk option in the above step) In this step, you need to select the Windows 8 ISO file and the USB device that you want to use to install Windows 8. Boot Camp Assistant will create a bootable USB drive for Windows 8 installation. Once you select the ISO file and destination USB drive, click Continue button.
Install Windows 8 On Mac Step3
Click Continue button if you are prompted with “The drive will be erased” message. Boot Camp Assistant may take a several minutes to create the bootable Windows 8 USB drive (it will also download Windows support software from Apple). Once Boot Camp Assistant finishes creating bootable Windows 8 USB, you will get “Boot Camp Assistant is trying to add new helper tool. Type your password to allow this” message. Type in the password and click Add Helper button to continue.

Step 4: Boot Camp Assistant now takes you to Create a partition for Windows window. Drag the divider between the partitions to set the size of the partitions. We recommend a minimum of 30 GB for Windows partition (Microsoft recommends 16 GB but if you want to install other software on Windows 8, allocate 30GB).

Make a bootable USB installer for Windows XP, Vista, 7 with WinToFlash

Making a bootable USB flash drive for Windows Vista and Windows 7 isn't all that tricky, but it's always nice to find an app that simplifies things. Not only does WinToFlash make the process about as easy as it can get, but it can also create Windows XP, Server 2003, and Server 2008 installers.
The default options make it easy to roll a silent Windows install, or you can flip the custom switch and specify the exact setup parameters you want to use.
The handy app also has one more trick up its sleeve: moving Windows Preinstall environments. PE discs can be extremely handy for troubleshooting and repairs, and being able to painlessly zap them over to a USB flash drive means not having to burn a new copy every time someone's haggard old optical drive decides to chew up your CD.
WinToFlash is a free download and is totally portable. It's an excellent tool to add to your USB-related utilities.

How to Upgrade From Windows 7 or Older to Windows 8 Pro

So now that the Windows 8 is officially available and Microsoft is providing the upgrade to every existing Windows user at a throwaway price, most of you must be thinking of an upgrade from Windows 7 or older version. So here we are with a detailed guide to help you with the process. In this step by step guide, we will show you how you can upgrade from Windows 7 or older versions of Windows to Windows 8 Pro without losing any of your personal files and settings. However, as there is a lot of confusion regarding the upgrade, I would suggest you first read our Windows 8 upgrade FAQ and also do a bit of your own research if you got certain lingering questions in your mind about the process. Once you are sure that you want to upgrade, you start following the steps below. Before We Start In this process we will be downloading Windows 8 Pro while installing it. Thus make sure you have a seamless internet connectivity throughout the process. If you are installing the upgrade on a desktop, make sure you have uninterrupted power supply. Make sure you close all the memory hogging applications before you run the upgrade. Trust me, it’s a wise idea to do that. Let’s Begin…
Step 1: We will be using Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant which you need to download first. After downloading the tool, run it with admin privileges. Once the program initiates, it will check the compatibility of your computer which might take a minute or two. After the compatibility test is finished you are good to proceed if your computer’s hardware is good enough to support Windows 8 Pro. Step 2: The tool will ask you if you want to do a clean install or you want to retain the files and settings of Windows 7. Make your selection and proceed to the next step. Step 3: Next, the tool will ask you to buy Windows 8 Pro which is of course a mandatory process. You will need a valid credit/debit card or a verified PayPal account to buy the license. If you want to order the Windows DVD you will have to add some extra funds. Finally provide your billing address and buy the Windows 8 Pro license. Step 4: After you buy the license, the tool will provide your unique license key which you should store in a safe place, maybe Evernote. After you proceed, the tool will download necessary Windows 8 files and prepare your PC for Windows 8 installation. Step 5: Once the tool has downloaded all the files and prepared your computer for upgrade, the tool will prompt you to save and close all the applications. As the tool will take a complete control of your computer, you will not be able to work on any files. Windows will then begin the upgrade which will take a considerable amount of time. Feel free to have some coffee or do a pending household chores in the meantime. Step 6: After the program is installed, you will be asked to configure Windows 8 before you can start working on it. That’s all, if everything went well, you would have successfully upgraded your Windows.

Lavasoft Ad-Aware Pro: A Security Suite That’s Fast & Effective

There are a lot of security solutions available to consumers today. Recently, we’ve covered programs from Bitdefender, IObit, and iolo–and I will be the first to say that they’ve all been excellent programs. however, when it comes to computer security, some could argue that Lavasoft’s Ad-Aware was one of the originals.
I still remember when malware was new and its full impact hadn’t been discovered. Ad-Aware was the first anti-malware tool I heard about and it served me for a great many years before it fell off the radar, having been outshadowed by a couple of products. But now, I think Lavasoft has updated their program sufficiently.
Let’s take a look at Lavasoft’s Ad-Aware Pro and see what it has to offer in terms of security.

Interface

The Ad-Aware dashboard looks a lot like most security suite dashboards–a centralized location where all of the features, options, and reports can be seen. The computer’s security status is displayed prominently at the top. Options are easily accessed–the little gear icons are subtle yet distinctive. The on/off toggles are easy to use, too.
I like the setup, frankly. The basic toggles are separated from the more advanced toggles so that newbie users don’t have to trip themselves up wading through a bunch of options that they don’t care about. At the same time, advanced users can do their advanced tasks with ease.

Anti-Malware Scans

The anti-malware functions don’t offer much in terms of uniqueness, but they’re laid out simply and succinctly. As expected, there are 3 modes: Quick Scan, Full Scan, and Custom Scan. Threats can be quarantined and you can read generated reports every time you run a scan. These reports are logged so you can always return to them if needed.
Anti-malware scans can be run on program startup or based on a schedule of selected days and times. One feature I liked is the ability to set performance levels for the different scan modes. Performance levels range from Lowest to Critical, allowing you to set the intensity of particular type of scan.

Real-Time Protection

background and warns you whenever something suspicious occurs on your computer. You can set which parts of Windows will trigger an Ad-Aware response, such as when shell options are changed, the hosts file is tampered with, or when a new context menu is created.
When real-time protection detects a suspicious program, you can select whether those programs should be allowed, blocked, or quarantined.

Firewall

Lavasoft claims that their firewall is better than what you can get from Microsoft’s Windows Firewall. Why? Because while other firewalls only check for incoming data, Ad-Aware checks outgoing data, too. So whether malicious data is coming in or going out, Ad-Aware promises to catch it.
The firewall can be configured based on a number of rules that you set: application rules, port rules, network rules, and gateway rules. You can pretty much block or allow whatever you want. Talk about a powerfully flexible firewall.

Advanced Features

As for Ad-Aware’s more advanced features, here’s what you can expect:
Bad Web Site Blocking. Protects your credit card information and banking data when using online services. With the real-time filter enabled, Ad-Aware protects against phishing attacks and impersonating websites.
Email Protection. Detects and prevents email-based threats when reading incoming mail and sending outgoing mail.
Identity Protection. By integrating with ID Watchdog, Ad-Aware will monitor your credit report and other personal information, letting you know whenever there are critical changes that may indicate identity theft.
External Storage Scan. Automatically scans external storage devices, like USB flash drives, whenever they are plugged in.
Safe Networking. Constantly monitors network activity to defend against malicious activity.
Gaming Mode. Disables notifications and alerts so that you can play games and watch movies without being disturbed.
